Day 4 camp

Today we went to see the historical places in Russel. So first we got ready and went into the bus with our stuff then took off to this town in Russel.

First we went to see the the oldest church in New Zealand and it is the oldest Anglican church. The name of the church is Christ church. Back when Hone heke was alive the cut down the british flag and went down to the town killed and burnt people and houses. So we went in front of the church and it had lots of tomb stones of people especially our old principals great grandfather Tamati waka nene they buried his body there because he fought for New Zealand. We went in and sat down on the chairs and we prayed for a while. Then we went outside to go to our next stop.

Next we went to the Pompalier house. It was the french catholic's headquarters where they made bibles and scriptures and leather for the book covers. First we went outside to see how they made leather, there was a square hole that had water in it and it had some leather inside. First my brother Viliami had to get this grabber and grab the leather from the water, then it was my turn when I was grabbing the leather it was hard to hang it up because it was pretty heavy. Then we went up stairs to see some things that they had back then. Then Lilo got the chance to make art with this machine that they used to make art on paper. Then we went outside and headed off.

After we went to go up a mountain to Flagstaff hill with Chris. On the way up we learnt some pretty interesting things like about native penguin in New Zealand called the Korora, it is a little blue penguin that the british used to eat. When made it up there was a big pole with flags, from there we could see where the other Flagstaff was it was on the Waitangi grounds.

Then we went to this little museum near the Pompalier house it had replica a pirate looking ship. And had little 3D video that taught some things.

After that our whole class went back into the bus and headed back to our campsite to get ready to go to the beach each group had 15 minutes every seven people and I was part of the first seven that went. It was fun because we got to play volleyball in there. Then we went back to the camp for dinner. For dinner we had fried bread , corn and ham. Then we had a dance battle in our groups, we all had 10 minutes to come up with a dance. When the ten muntes was up it was our groups turn we dance to the git up challenge. And then it was group 2 and then group 3.

Chris and magnus made a decision of who won. First he announced our points which we got 12 points group 2 got 14 and group 3 got 16. Next it was the freestyle round and we won that round with 18 points. but are team still lost because group 3 got 30 points then we had a campfire and ate smores and sang songs

Day 3 camp

Today we went to kerikeri. Kerikeri is the largest town in Northland , New zealand its near our campsite which is in Russel. We went there to see the stone store, Kemp house and Rewa's village.

First we went to see the Kemp house, we saw lots of old things. We learnt what they used for writing which was slates and a black stick as the pencil. Then we went in to the next room which had a picture of Hongi hika a leader of iwi Ngapuhi tribe and it had a picture of his daughter Hariata rongo hika. After Mrs Raj chose seven people to go to the upstairs room. It was a little scary for me because there were two rooms with dolls on the bed. After we went back down stairs and played a game where we have to throw a ring on to a wooden stick, Then we went outside to take a photo.

Next we went inside the stone store which is the oldest store in New Zealand, it had lots of cool things in there. I think in the stone have been trading things like muskets ever since it was built. And it had a music box that could play different kind of music my favorite was the pink panther. Then we had to go to the upstairs to do a quiz. After the quiz we went outside to look at the view of the waterfall.

Next we went to Rewa's village to see how the maori lived what they live in, we also took a photo outside one of the houses that they ised to live in.

Finally we did a scavenger hunt. We had to go through the stone store and the forest and it was tiring because we had to walk a lot, the team that won the scavenger hunt was group 1. After that we went on the ferry back to our campsite, we also had pasta for dinner.

at the end of the day I felt really happy because we got to experience lots of places and learnt lots of things.

Day 2 camp

Today we got up at 6:00 in the morning got up and went into the common room to have breakfast. Then we went in our groups to do some activities like team building, bush craft and kayaking.

First our activity was team building. For team building we did little games to learn to work as a team. We played a game called human knot , we had to tie our hands together and try to get free. Then we played a game that we have to make an island and but these mats that are icebergs on the floor and every body has get on one iceberg. The next game we played was don touch the lava. We each had a block of wood make a path to the other side.

Next our activity was bush craft. First they tought us how to tie a strong knot to hold up something. Then we went outside and we got  split up into half to make tents. We chose two trees to make our tent. so first we tied the rope across the tree then we put  a tarp over the rope to create a triangular shape. then we tied the edges with some sticks and a string. After we we went back to shelter to make a fire so we can boil water but first we went to collect some dry branches to make the fire. Then we gathered all our branches to burn them. Then we boiled some water and made hot chocolate.

After our next activity was kayaking but it was to rainy so we went off for a bush walk in the forest we learnt lots of stuff in there like about the puriri tree and the totara tree. After that we went for swimming the pool was very cold.
